WOODCUTTERS’ BUTTRESS, GIGGLESWICK NORTH
THURSDAY 23RD JUNE
Four of us rolled up to this nice little evening venue clutching the latest Northern Limestone Rockfax, expecting eleven or so do-able, mostly bolted routes, and were chuffed to find the Yorkshire bolting brigade (bless their socks) had unearthed and bolted up another nine routes for our delectation. These included some very amenable routes of Grade F4 and F5, as well as some harder offerings upto and including 7a. There are now 19 or 20 routes to go at with something for everyone wishing to make progress up through the sports grades.
Prospective member, Andrew, conned us all by claiming he’d had a long layoff from climbing and then proceeded to lead several tough 6as and 6a+s, only failing to onsight a particularly fingery and steep 6b+ when he was knackered towards the end of the night!
Sorry, no photos, will try harder next time!
Rob Smitton.
