We all had a great days walk starting from Settle, following the Ribble way and crossing the river to walk along the Craven Limeworks trail, visiting the Hoffman Kiln which is a vast cloistered cavern in excellent condition with 22 burning chambers and is unique to Britain. Leaving this we made our way to Stainforth and crossed over the road to have a brew stop at Stainforth force in anticipation of seeing salmon leaping but with no luck we headed up and over the fell to Feizor where we enjoyed a welcome cup of tea and lunch at Elaine’s tearooms, now feeling revived we headed onto the bridleway signposted Giggleswick Scars, our leader diverted us off to visit Dead Mans Cave and Celtic wall, the wall is not Celtic but possibly medieval in origin and probably a burial site, it is 65ft in length 5ft high and wide, we then retraced our steps back on to the track over Giggleswick Scars via the quarry and Lords wood back into Settle. Thanks to Dave and Pam for coordinating a very interesting days walk.
