Pot Scar Wednesday 20th July

Five climbers turned up to practise our trad leading skills on the mini-classics to be found at this excellent little limestone crag above Feizor. For once the weather was good and we were able to carry on climbing till nightfall, four of us eventually stumbling down the descent gully at 10 pm with only Linda in possession of a headtorch!

Nirvana, now a Top 50 VS route in Rockfax, proved to be polished and harsh for the grade but excellent nonetheless.  Overdose VS and Addiction VS were led by most of us while Ringing Groove HVS and Potholers’ Proddle Direct E1 were well-protected but tough little routes on perfect rock.

New member Andrew was keen to learn safe belaying techniques at the top of the crag and he did well leading several VSs, although it was noted that some of his gear would have graced any collection of antique mountaineering equipment!
A very good meet, great company and all in the loveliest of settings in the Yorkshire Dales.
