Patterdale weekend March 2016

Twelve members of the club enjoyed dry, clear conditions during our stay at the George Starkey Hut on the weekend of 18/19/20th March.

On Saturday a large party set off via Boredale Hause to Angle Tarn, then continued via The Knott to the summit of High Street for lunch. This was followed by an ascent of Thornthwaite Crag, before descending steeply to Threshthwaite Mouth. Here some members opted to head down the valley to Hartsop, whilst others climbed to the summits of Stoney Cove Pike and Caudale Moor, taking a direct route via a steep ridge down to the Brotherswater Inn for much needed refreshment.

Thanks to Chris & Rob for the main course, and contributors of starters and desserts, members enjoyed a delicious communal meal on Saturday evening, further enhanced by the warmth from the new woodburning stove recently installed in the hut.

One group headed out to Glenridding on Sunday morning for the steady pull up to the summits of Heron Crag and Sheffield Pike, enjoying great views of the Helvellyn horseshoe and skiers on Raise. Continuing via Green Side and Sticks Pass, the peaks of Stybarrow Dodd, Raise, White Side and Helvellyn were visited before returning to White Side for the descent to Greenside Mine.

A larger group walked up Dovedale to enjoy a great day out on Hart Crag, Fairfield, Cofa Pike and St. Sunday Crag before returning to Patterdale.

Many thanks to co-ordinators Chris and Rob for a great weekend!
