Some varied scenery and conditions for our group of 12 on Great Whernside. We walked up via the scenic path alongside Dowber Gill Beck in bright sunny weather before heading up the snow slopes to Hag Dike. After a brew by a conveniently sheltered wall we headed up to the summit in a progressively stronger and cooler wind for lunch on top, with views to Pendle Hill and Pen y Ghent in the distance. The bracing section along the plateau into a head wind and a steep snowy descent down provided enough challenges for the day so an executive decision was made to leg it down along the road to the Blue Bell Inn in Kettlewell. A pint, pot of tea or hot chocolate by a log fire was a fine end to the walk.
Thanks to everyone who decided to come and helped to make it such a rewarding day.
