On Saturday a circuit of Pillar, Black Crag, Scoat Fell & Steeple from Low Gillerthwaite was a popular outing, completed in clockwise & anticlockwise directions by different parties. Conditions in the he morning were very wet, windy & misty on the tops, but great views were enjoyed later in the afternoon as the weather spectacularly improved. Bern, Rob & Chris had picked up two lost & disoriented walkers by the time they met Gail & Godfrey on Black Crag.
On the other side of the valley, Anne & Allan experienced better weather as they climbed to Scarth Gap to follow the ridge over Seat, High Crag, High Stile & Red Pike back to High Gillerthwaite.
Black Sail youth hostel, open for various refreshments, was also a popular destination- a long walk there & back, but great views in every direction!
The showery weather had returned by Sunday morning, so one group decided to walk round Ennerdale Water. Despite the occasional downpours, there were some sunny periods to enjoy along the way.
A fantastic weekend helping Gail to celebrate her *0th Birthday & a wonderful meal on Saturday night. Many thanks to all who contributed starters, the main course, desserts & the early evening gin & tonics.
Godfrey.
