Members arrived having got to Two Dales, the location of Star Cottage by a number of varied and bizarre routes. Kevin took them in hand and on Saturday walked a route from the cottage to Darley Bridge and on to Birchover. As the group started along Stanton Moor it was time to get waterproofed up and after lunch at the Nine Ladies Stone Circle the rain was very heavy so the cafe at the flour mill in Rowsley provided an opportunity to dry off. Our route back took us by the bank of the River Derwent in better weather.
Ignoring Sunday’s dire forecast paid off initially, walking from Calton Lees car park, taking in the pretty village of Pilsley. By the time we reached Baslow , the rain was torrential, and after lunch under the pavilion veranda we raced back by the quickest route, which showed off Chatsworth House in all its glory and returned to our cars in a very soggy state.
Thank you to Sue and Kevin for organizing a brilliant weekend.
