Clitheroe Mountaineering Club was formed in 1978 when a group of people were brought together by a common interest in mountain walking and rock climbing. The aim of the club is to encourage the enjoyment of mountain activities, providing help and guidance to members when requested.

Since the formation of the club, members of all ages have taken part in a huge range of activities, both indoors and outdoors, and at differing levels of specialisation and ability.

The club holds regular outdoor meets in the Lakes, Wales and Scotland, on weekdays and weekends. Mountaineering huts are also booked for five or six weekends each year.

Regular indoor meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month at Clitheroe Cricket Club, Chatburn Road, Clitheroe for eleven months of the year. Illustrated talks include those given by guest speakers who are specialists in various aspects of mountaineering or who have visited different parts of the world to pursue their interests.

Please note that rock climbing and ice climbing members and prospective members are expected to have some prior experience and should come equipped with the usual key bits of gear (harnesses, helmets and belay devices).

Bulletins and newsletters recording the activities of the members are published during the year. Articles and reports back are always welcome and may be given to the Editor.

The management of the club is in the hands of an elected committee who do their best to take on board the suggestions and comments from all members.

We welcome new members from The Ribble Valley and surrounding areas
