A fleeting view!

The forecast was cold and bright, first snows of the season for the Lake District, and twelve members met at Sadgill with high expectations. We made our way up Shipman Knotts and on to Kentmere Pike, but the summits were under cloud and the views as we continued along the ridge to Harter Fell were fleeting.

Approaching Kentmere Pike

At least the bogs were frozen and the company was good. The family we met heading uphill towards the patchy snow with a red sledge strapped turtle-like to their rucksack were probably doomed to a disappointing day!

X marks the?

We descended to Gatesgarth pass then picked a line through the bogs and climbed south east over the lesser-known tops of Tarn Crag and Grey Crag before heading down towards the road at Stockdale and back to Sadgill.

Leaving Gatesgarth pass

A satisfying day out for the Wainwright-baggers!
